How to post on binaries newsgroups(?)

I've had binary boy for a little while now and have done my share of taking and now I want to give back. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to how to post on a binaries newsgroup (particularly MP3s). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well, there's lots of mail and/or newsgroup applications to choose from that will allow you to post messages with attachments. If you're a Windows user, you already have Outlook Express (OE), so you might as well start there.

Just setup your newsgroup account in OE (under Tools -> Accounts -> Add -> News). You'll then be prompted to download the list of newsgroups that your server supports, and choose which ones you want to subscribe to. After that, just click on the newgroup you want to post to, and then click on New Post. From there, it's just like sending email.

If you're sending large attachments and want them broken up into several messages, go to Tools -> Accounts -> News, click on your newsgroup account, then Properties. Under the Advanced tab, in the Posting section, you'll find an option to "Break apart messages larger than...". Just set it to whatever value seems appropriate (look at what others are doing in that newsgroup).

If you have very large files, you'll probably want to break them up first with something like MasterSplitter (http://www.tomasoft.com/ ), create .PAR files with something like SmartPAR (http://www.disc-chord.com/smartpar/ ), and then post all the parts.

If you don't have or like OE, many folks also use PowerPost (http://www.cosmicwolf.com/ ).

Having said all that, I have been unable to post any large files to alt.binaries.multimedia... on the binaryboy servers using OE or PowerPost. I can post just fine to alt.binaries.test, so I don't think it's me, but I haven't had time to figure out what's going on.

So, let me know if you have any luck!

Thanks dude, I really appreciate the help. I posted an mp3 and it worked perfectly. If you or anyone else wants to check it out go to alt.binaries.test and look up test-nile.mp3. I'm just kind of proud of myself right now.
